Films

  • Children of Men. Clive Owen was very watchable in Alfonso Cuaron's powerful film set in 2027. Like Del Toro's Pan's Labrynth, our unlikely hero has to obey his sometimes illogical inner voice that tells him this is the right thing to do at that time. The violence and dark subject was uncompromising and true to the theme and characters. I could not guess what was going to happen next. Not for the faint hearted, I loved this film.
  • Cosi: Australian. Toni Collette can sing! Best "let's put on a show" movie.
  • Danny Deckchair: Australian. A dreamer breaks up with his girlfriend by taking off in a deckchair with giant helium filled balloons.
  • Ealing Studios Comedy Collection: British. Passport to Pimlico.
  • Film Favorite! Pan's Labyrinth. This is a dark parable for adults that tells the story of a young teen girl who must follow her inner voice that points her in the direction of young womanhood. There are many crossroads in her path of magic and challenges. Del Toro weaves his story seamlessly between Spain's brutal history in 1944 and a fairy tale world that harkens back to the original versions of myth and folklore.

Boat Harbour, Tasmania, Australia
Having lived in Tassie years ago, I still have strong emotional and family ties in Australia. It is my home away from home. Boat Harbour is a place I lived for awhile in the '70's. Photo: FLICKR
